First and foremost, because it works! I also like that it is practical and science-based and knowing a little bit about the science can result in really positive outcomes for organizations and society.

I spend a substantial amount of time prepping classes and grading assignments. I am also always working on research as well as supporting students conducting research. In addition, I engage in university service activities like attending I/O and Psychology department meetings and supervising Psi Chi. Each week I also spend time connecting with local organizations seeking out potential consulting or research site opportunities. As an academic I think it is imperative to also stay connected to the applied world and that means my hands are often in many pots.

I find working in a traditional I/O department challenging but also rewarding for two reasons. First, I get to practice disseminating OBM to people outside the field almost every day and second, I am always learning about new ideas and different perspectives from my colleagues.
